The Empress season 2 plot: What will happen?
At the end of the Empress, after visiting the iron foundry where she gave shoes to the afflicted girl, Elizabeth was tied to the walls of the palace for disobeying royal protocol (showing sympathy). Losing all hope that anything will be done to help her poor, Elisabeth succumbs to her despair and spends her days with Franz’s brother Maximilian, further tarnishing her reputation.
Grand Duchess Sophia was witty to the apparently rebellious empress, suggesting that Elisabeth return to Bavaria, and Franz exchanged harsh words with her wife, accusing her of having an affair with her brother.
However, before Franz can ask Elizabeth to go, she finally finds out that she is pregnant. To her regret, the Empress is heartbroken and refrains from telling her husband the news. When Elizabeth tried to leave, the exit was blocked by a large angry crowd that had gathered outside the palace gates to denounce the emperor.
The guard asks that the carriage be turned around, but Elisabeth demands that the gates be opened. As Franz and Sophia look on, the Empress hugs the crowd and announces that they have “met” before telling them that she is pregnant. Will her actions convince people? Can she forgive Franz? What plans does Sofia have now that she is pregnant? Hopefully, season 2 will answer all of these questions once Netflix gives it the green light.
