The famous American TV drama Yellowstone is back for its fifth season, and fans of the show are excited to see what new adventures and twists await the characters. However, some viewers are left wondering if this will be the last season of Yellowstone. Throughout its four-year run, the show has gained more viewers and critical acclaim with each passing season. So will Season 5 be the final installment? In this article, we will discuss whether or not Season 5 of Yellowstone is the last.

About Yellowstone

Yellowstone is an American television series that debuted on the Paramount Network on June 20, 2018, and was created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson. Kevin Costner, Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, and Gil Birmingham are featured in the series. The series follows the conflicts along the shared boundaries of Yellowstone Ranch, a large cattle ranch, Broken Rock Indian reservation, Yellowstone National Park, and land developers. The first half of the fifth season premiere occurred on November 13, 2022, while the second half premiered in 2023.

Is Yellowstone Ending With Season 5?

According to a new report from Deadline, Yellowstone, the highest-rated television drama, will conclude unexpectedly. Taylor Sheridan, co-creator and showrunner, is reportedly collaborating with Paramount Global and Paramount Network to end the wildly popular show in its current form.

However, it is believed that the parties are working on an extension of the franchise in which Hollywood A-lister Matthew McConaughey will lead a new show set in the same universe. According to the report, McConaughey is currently in negotiations with Paramount.

Kevin Costner’s dispute with the studio over shooting schedules is believed to be the primary reason for the show’s cancellation as it currently stands. Costner initially stated that he would work for 65 days on the first part of the most recent season, but sources reportedly told Deadline that he would only shoot for 50 days. Due to prior commitments on his multi-part epic western film Horizon, for which he is starring, directing, and co-writing alongside Jon Baird for Warner Bros. and New Line, the actor informed the production staff that he would only be available for one week of shooting for the second batch of episodes.

According to Deadline, Costner’s behavior has been problematic for the cast and Sheridan and is believed to be causing morale problems among other cast and crew members. Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, and Gil Birmingham are featured in the show’s cast. According to reports, Paramount rejected Costner’s proposal for his shooting schedule and decided to sever ties and move on to the new project with McConaughey.

Sheridan has successfully expanded the Yellowstone franchise with the December 2021 premiere of the prequel series 1883, starring Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Sam Elliott, which tells the story of the Duttons purchasing the land on which the Yellowstone ranch is situated. 1923, starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, covers Prohibition and the Great Depression.

Paramount Network spokesperson responded to the speculation by saying:

“We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone, and we hope that’s been the case for a long time. Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built. Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner.”
