Who Is Blac Chyna And Why Is Blac Chyna Suing The Kardashians? The Trial Explained

Monday was the first day of the trial for the lawsuit that the former “Rob & Chyna” star filed against the famous family.

A few days after the first episode of “The Kardashians” came out on Hulu, rapper Blac Chyna’s case against her ex-boyfriend Rob Kardashian and his family, which she filed five years ago, will finally go to court in Los Angeles today.

Rob and Chyna used to be the focus of the E! reality show “Rob & Chyna.” They have a daughter together named Dream. The couple broke up in the middle of filming the second season of the show. The show was put on hold for good. Months later, Chyna sued the family in a big way, saying that Rob was physically abusive and that Kim, Khloé, Kris, and Kylie Jenner worked together to cancel “Rob & Chyna.”

Here’s everything you need to know as the trial starts and the famous family finds itself in yet more trouble.

A Brief History Of Rob, Chyna, And “Rob And Chyna”

In January 2016, Blac Chyna, whose real name is Angela Renée White, and the youngest child of Kris and Robert Kardashian came out as a couple. Three months later, they told everyone they were getting married. In May, she told everyone she was pregnant. In June, E! gave the go-ahead for the first season of “Rob & Chyna.” The six-episode reality show aired in the fall, and in November, Chyna gave birth to their daughter.

From the start, there were rumors that the rapper model and her fiancé’s family had problems, but it wasn’t until December that they became public knowledge. She said her Instagram had been hacked when a screenshot of a note that said she had left Rob and taken their baby without telling him was posted on her account.

Rob accused Chyna of cheating, and Chyna said Rob wouldn’t get help for his mental health problems.

In July 2017, Rob posted naked photos of Chyna on social media, which made their relationship even worse. Chyna then got a restraining order against Rob. (This will be tried separately in a trial that will start in May.)

E! confirmed in that month that Season 2 of “Rob & Chyna” had not been made for “several months.” A representative told Variety that the show was canceled before the revenge porn scandal and the breakup of their relationship.

Why Is Blac Chyna Suing The Kardashians?

In October 2017, Chyna filed a large lawsuit against Rob, Kim, Khloé, and Kris Jenner, as well as Kylie Jenner. Rob is being charged with assault, battery, and harassment, and the rest of his family is being charged with defamation.

The lawsuit said, “Rob Kardashian is an abuser who wants to hurt Angela White, the mother of his child who left him in 2016.” “To get back at her, the Kardashian-Jenner family turned into media predators. They called her a “slut” on social media and canceled her TV show, which had already started filming a second season.

Even though Rob and Chyna had broken up, E! planned to show a second season of “Rob & Chyna” about their journey as co-parents. Chyna says that they were well into making the show when the Kardashians tried to stop them.

She says that the Kardashian-Jenners made up a story about Chyna hitting Rob and putting pressure on network executives to stop production right away. Kardashian also sued Chyna for assault, but he dropped that case in February 2022.

The suit also says that “Rob & Chyna” would have made “Life of Kylie,” another “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” spinoff, less interesting. The first episode of that E! show came out in the summer of 2017.

The lawsuit said that by plotting against Chyna, the family was “flexing their muscles to destroy Ms. White’s career so that she could no longer compete with the Kardashian-Jenner women as an entrepreneur and social media influencer.”

The suit continued, “By canceling the second season of ‘Rob & Chyna,’ the defendants made sure that the E! network had room in its schedule for Kylie Jenner to star in her show, in which she heavily promoted Kylie Cosmetics, which used to be in direct competition with LASHED by Blac Chyna.”

So, the lawsuit says, Chyna lost out on millions of dollars she would have made from the show and other sources.

After Chyna Filed The lawsuit, What Happened?

In October 2020, the Kardashians asked a judge to throw out Chyna’s lawsuit, but the judge said no.

Lynn Ciani, Chyna’s lawyer, told Us Weekly that “Blac Chyna will seek millions in compensatory and punitive damages from Kris [Jenner], Kim [Kardashian], Khloé [Kardashian], and Kylie [Jenner] for defamation, intentional interference with contract, and intentional interference with prospective economic advantage.”

Later, a judge told the company that made “Rob & Chyna” to give over footage from the second season that hadn’t been shown yet.

Who Is Going To Talk At The Trial?

The trial, which is expected to last 10 days, started picking a jury on Monday. Live testimony will be given by Kris Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian, and Khloé Kardashian. Ryan Seacrest, who produced “Rob & Chyna” and co-created and executive produced “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” and “The Kardashians” on Hulu, is also expected to testify.

Chyna will be the first person called to the stand, and her lawyer says she will be there for the whole trial.
