Only Murders in the Building spoilers will be revealed after this. The fact that you’re reading this right now indicates that you’re a fan of Only Murders in the Building and have decided to conduct your own investigation into the events of season two.
You’re in luck because Hulu has already announced that the murder-mystery podcast comedy will return for a second season in the fall. We can’t wait either, but we have no choice but to wait. So, while we wait for new episodes to arrive on Disney+, here’s everything you need to know about Only Murders in the Building season 2.
Only Murders in the Building season 2 Release Date
Unfortunately, there is no set release date for Only Murders in the Building at this time. Filming, on the other hand, has already begun, with shooting set to begin at the beginning of December 2021.
Season one of The Walking Dead premiered on Hulu in the United States on August 31, 2021, with Disney Plus releasing it in the United Kingdom the following day. Even though the final episode teased that something would be coming “this fall,” it appears likely that the release date will remain the same in 2022.
“Everyone in our amazing ‘Building’ worked with such love and expertise through extraordinary times – and with incredible support from Disney, Hulu, and 20th TV – to create a first season that might live up to our legendary cast, our beloved New York City, and to make a show about connection,” said series co-creator and executive producer John Hoffman in a statement shared by Variety.
To believe we’ve connected with our audience and hit the mark enough to be given the opportunity to continue – and to continue our show’s wild ride of mystery, comedy, and empathy – is beyond words. So I’ll shut up now and just say a heartfelt thank you to everyone, and I can’t wait to see what else is in store!”

Only Murders in the Building season 2 cast
The show wouldn’t be complete without its central trio of Steve Martin (who plays Charles-Haden Savage), Martin Short (who plays Oliver Putnam), and Selena Gomez (who plays Judith Savage) (Mabel Mora). Gomez was so enthralled with the process of creating the first season that it completely transformed her style!
“It’s cool because, personally, I’ve changed a lot since I started season one and since I finished season two,” Gomez said (via Variety). “I realize that it was only a brief period of time, but I believe that it had an effect on [her character], Mabel, as well. On the contrary, she exudes a greater level of sophistication. Her style is becoming more refined. She’s super cool, you know? I decided to cut my hair. As a result, Mabel has a completely new beginning.”
Tina Fey is also expected to return in the role of Cinda Canning, the true-crime podcaster who resembles Sarah Koenig and who has taken an unusually keen interest in the three would-be detectives in the first season.
Additionally, it’s likely that more bizarre celebrity cameos will appear in the film, such as Sting, who also happens to live in their apartment complex. We’re confident that whoever shows up will be a riot.
Only Murders in the Building season 2 Plot
Mabel, Charles, and Oliver are going to be in a difficult situation in the second season, according to the trailer. Instead of attempting to determine someone’s guilt, they are now required to demonstrate their innocence.
When Mabel and her friends discover Bunny, the obnoxious President of the Residents’ Association, who has been stabbed with one of Mabel’s knitting needles, their celebrations are shattered. In the season one finale, after discovering the true killer of Tim Kono, the trio’s celebrations are shattered when they learn that Bunny was the true killer of Tim Kono.
Everything goes from bad to worse when the police arrive and discover Mabel, who is covered in Bunny’s blood, standing next to Charles and Oliver. All three are immediately arrested and frogmarched out of The Arconia in front of their neighbors, who are on the lookout.
Cinda Canning, a true-crime podcaster who competes with me, is already outside with her assistant, which seems suspiciously perfect timing. She then says something ominous, such as: “This fall, expect a new release. Only Murderers are present in the building.”
In light of the fact that the murder weapon belonged to Mabel, Charles, and Oliver, the chances are stacked against them all. Their podcast’s distinctive tie-dye sweater is featured on Bunny.
Assuming, of course, that the amateur couch detectives can actually come up with a strategy to prove their innocence before the investigation is over.
Season two has a strong foundation, that much is evident.
‘Another season was casually thrown around, but then John started pouring these ideas out and sure enough, they have come to fruition,’ Gomez added. “Initially, I was taken aback by the show’s unconventionality, but that’s what makes it such a terrific show. They did an amazing job of inventing a new narrative.”
According to Hoffman, “we do have a really solid track for season two” (via Elle). “In a month, we will begin shooting. Seeing the actors and all the rest of the crew arrive is going to be a lot of fun. Having worked with the authors for several months, we are confident in their abilities.”
“You have to work your way through the mystery backward and forwards on this show in order to reach a conclusion. The only way to arrive at your destination is by first knowing everything that will be revealed at the very end, then concealing and twisting your way there. Since we started doing that, we’ve been moving quickly through the scripts, and we’re now about halfway done.”
In addition, the show may extend into its second season.
“Everyone involved seems to be having a great time. Because there are so many people in this show, it feels like a great little oasis of work and time commitment that allows for a more balanced life. We’d all like to see it continue, I’m sure.”
“Season two will feature an expansion of all the characters’ stories, which, without giving anything away, I believe will be rather interesting. When something intriguing happens in New York City, it doesn’t take long for it to make news. So the podcast and their personal lives are expanding at a rapid pace. Perhaps we can use it to grow the show, perhaps even outside our current location, in future seasons.”
Only Murders in the Building season 2 Trailer
Filming for the second season had only begun in December 2021. The good news is that if you keep checking back, we’ll keep you up to date. Between takes of the new episodes, Gomez filmed this hilarious behind-the-scenes video, which you can watch below.
A new trailer could be released as early as spring or summer 2022 for season two of Only Murders in the Building. Currently, Only Murders in the Building is available on Disney+ in the United Kingdom and on Hulu in the United States, respectively.
