There has been a slew of good news for Outlander fans in recent weeks: Season six of the popular Starz series Outlander will premiere on Sunday, March 6; the ninth book in author Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series, Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone, will be released in November 2021; and the Outlander-inspired travelogue Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham will return for a second season on Starz!

Outlander and Men in Kilts star Sam Heughan and his co-star, former Outlander cast member Graham McTavish, made the announcement in a video released in November 2021 that was filled with their trademark banter and lighthearted mockery. The clip shows Heughan saying, “We had such a fantastic time on Men in Kilts Season 1,” according to the clip. “We’re going to do it again!” says the group.

Although the first season of Men in Kilts focused on the actors’ shared home country of Scotland, the second season, which will consist of six episodes, will transport Heughan and McTavish all the way across the world to New Zealand. According to McTavish’s tweet, there will be “driving, joy, shock, surprises, landscapes, history, and a celebration of all things Kiwi” during the event.

What is it about New Zealand that interests you? The duo has revealed a few details about the new season’s setting, as well as what viewers can expect from the show. For everything we know about Men in Kilts Season 2, please continue reading.

Men in Kilts Season 2 Release Date

Although no release date has been announced, we do know that the season’s filming was completed on February 16, 2022, which is the day before the season’s premiere. Heughan announced the news on social media, along with a cute photo of him and McTavish (both dressed in kilts, of course) holding hands and flashing peace signs in front of a beautiful, verdant backdrop.

“It’s time to call it a day!” Heughan wrote the caption for the photo. “An incredible road trip around New Zealand; a huge thank you to everyone who assisted us in navigating every bump in the road and who went above and beyond to make our journey a success!” “You’re going to absolutely adore Season 2,” he continued. I can assure you that @grahammctavish is still alive.”

Just a few weeks before that, in early February 2022, Heughan and McTavish were spotted filming in the New Zealand city of Invercargill (population: approximately 57,000), where sources told the New Zealand Herald that they were staying at the Kelvin Hotel, a local landmark. It was also reported that their next stop would be in the country’s Otago region, which is also located on New Zealand’s South Island and would be their final destination.

Following the publication of that report, Heughan confirmed in a Feb. 11 tweet that Season 2 had officially begun production in New Zealand and that fans could expect an “epic journey” in the upcoming season.

Men in Kilts Season 2 Cast

Men in Kilts Season 2 will follow in the footsteps of Season 1, with Heughan and McTavish, who co-created and developed the show, serving as the show’s main road-trippers. What local experts, makers, musicians, and historians we’ll come across along the way is something we’re not sure about yet.

Men in Kilts Season 2 Plot

As a result of the large number of Scottish immigrants who have settled in New Zealand, according to McTavish, it is known as “the Scotland of the Southern hemisphere.” As McTavish explains, “We are going to be retracing our steps in the footsteps of the Scottish immigrants who arrived in New Zealand in the early nineteenth century,” while Heughan adds, “Not only that, but we are going to be studying New Zealand’s culture: its food, its drink, and its [indigenous] Maori culture.”

As a result, Heughan says that viewers can expect more “high-octane activities, the death-defying adrenaline junkie adventures” that McTavish was hesitant to participate in during the first season—which served as the basis for a lot of the show’s comedic moments. “Can you tell me what that last bit was referring to exactly?” During the announcement, Graham asked the question with trepidation. “Oh, it’s nothing, I wouldn’t worry about it,” Heughan deadpanned when asked about the incident.

About Men in Kilts Season 1?

The first season of the show, which premiered in February 2021, followed Heughan and McTavish as they drove a van around Scotland, learning about various aspects of Scottish culture and history along the way. Despite the fact that the travel show was inspired by the television series Outlander (which featured scenes set in Scotland in its earlier seasons), the two lads’ buddy humor and bromance quickly became its primary draw.

As Heughan and McTavish sampled Scottish cuisine and whisky, took part in Highland sports such as hammer throwing and stone lifting, managed to learn Scottish dancing, discovered Scottish superstitions, explored the clans and their famous tartans, and learned about the historic Battle of Culloden, viewers were transported to Scotland in the comfort of their own homes. Oh, and Heughan jumped into the ocean while completely naked. Let’s hope that antics are repeated in Season 2 of The Walking Dead!
