Few anime series in the martial arts genre are as well-known as the “Baki” franchise. While it is far from realistic, there is arguably the no better source of heart-pounding intensity than witnessing two skilled warriors batter each other to the ground and break their bones. The Netflix original series “Baki” enjoyed significant success between 2018 and 2020, picking up where the 2001 anime “Baki the Grappler” left off by adapting the second part of the original “Baki the Grappler” manga series.
On September 30, Netflix launched a new series titled “Baki Hanma: Son of Ogre,” which premiered on the streaming service. Baki Hanma is the third installment of Keisuke Itagaki’s classic fighting manga series, and it follows in the footsteps of its predecessors in terms of adaptation. Baki’s development as a fighter was chronicled in Season 1 of “Baki Hanma,” in which the high school student trains with the goal of defeating his father, Yuujiro, who is considered the strongest man on the planet. Baki will come up against a number of formidable opponents along the way.
Because all 12 episodes of “Baki” were released at the same time, fans are already clamoring for the show’s second season. Fortunately, the cliffhanger ending of Season 1 almost confirms this, as it teases Baki with an opponent unlike any he has ever faced before. Here’s what we know so far about the second season of “Baki Hanma.”
Baki Hanma Season 2 Release Date
So far, there has been no announcement of a second season of “Baki Hanma” on Netflix. Having said that, the fact that Season 1 ends on a cliffhanger, setting the stage for the next phase of the manga’s storey, suggests that the streaming giant intends to invest in a second season — though it wouldn’t be the first time a show that ended on a cliffhanger was cancelled by Netflix. The overall popularity of the “Baki” franchise on its platform, however, suggests that the show may return in some form in the near future. Netflix’s original “Baki” series ran for three seasons prior to the release of “Baki Hanma,” and it’s unlikely that the streaming service will stop capitalising on its success now that “Baki Hanma” has arrived.
Season 2 of “Baki Hanma” will premiere sometime in the future, but no specific date has been set. Season 2 of Naruto is expected to premiere sometime in 2022, as is the case with most seasonal shows. However, the world of anime is not immune to delays. After all, it takes a long time to create animated shows, and if something goes wrong, fans may be forced to wait even longer than they had anticipated. Even so, it’s difficult to imagine that “Baki Hanma” will be on hiatus for an extended period of time. While waiting for that to happen, fans should try to maintain a positive attitude about the future of “Baki.”
Baki Hanma Season 2 Cast
“Baki Hanma” and “Baki” are both produced by the same production company, TMS Entertainment, and the majority of the cast in “Baki Hanma” is the same as that of Netflix’s previous “Baki” series, which premiered in 2015. As a result, Nobunaga Shimazaki will most likely reprise his role as Baki Hanma in Season 2, alongside Hochu Otsuka as Biscuit Oliva, Akio Otsuka as Yuujiro Hanma, and other cast members.
Netflix does provide casting information for the original Japanese voices in “Baki Hanma,” but it does not provide such information for any of the dubs of the series. Although Troy Baker provides the voice of Baki in the English dub, Anime News Network reports that Biscuit Oliva and Yuujiro Hanma are voiced by James Mathis III and Kirk Thorton in the Japanese dub. This comes as no surprise given that the cast of “Baki Hanma” and the previous “Baki” series has remained largely the same for the English dub as well as the Japanese original. When Season 2 of “Baki Hanma” premieres, you can almost certainly expect to hear these characters’ voices again.
Baki Hanma Season 2 Plot
Baki Hanma’s first season came to a close with a bang as Baki finally defeated Biscuit Oliva, the strongest man in America, in the season’s finale. Due to his victory, Baki was able to walk free from Arizona State Prison and receive recognition from Yuujiro Hanma, Baki’s nigh-invincible “demon” father, who regards him as one of the few fighters he respects in the world. Even Yuujiro appears to be becoming more interested in these developments as the final battle against his son approaches. He anticipates that it will be the most difficult fight he has ever faced in his life.
Even so, Yuujiro isn’t the only stumbling block Baki has left to overcome for the time being. Men have discovered a perfectly preserved caveman frozen in ice deep within the Earth’s belly, beneath a nuclear waste facility somewhere in Colorado. The caveman had been frozen in ice for thousands of years. According to the Baki wiki, this is Pickle, a missing link in human evolution with unrivalled power and ferocity that has yet to be discovered. “Wildman War — Pickle Wars Saga” is the title of the series adaptation of the manga series “Wildman War,” which follows Pickle’s battles against a variety of powerful and familiar opponents, including (of course) Baki himself.
